Voting

The ludicrous Give Your Vote campaign

This Give Your Vote campaign is ludicrous. The idea is that if you don't want to vote in the UK's May 2010 general election, you can give it to someone else in Afghanistan, Bangladesh or Ghana.

People who abstain do so for a few reasons:

  1. It is against their ideological views
  2. They are too lazy
  3. They just don't care

What makes the numb-headed campaigners think that any of these groups of people would buy in to their little circlejerk? If someone doesn't believe in the process, why would they give their vote to some Afghan poppy farmer? If they can't be bothered to vote, why take the trouble to visit the website and register? If they don't care, they might as well spend the time making a peanut-butter sandwich.

The website says, "...instead of being part of the multi-million pound media spin of an election campaign to decide between parties that barely differ you can bend the rules to inspire a new way of thinking. And remind the politicians that we, the people are the ones who decide."

The purpose of an election is to let people think they're the ones who decide. It's all one big spin regardless of who's actually casting the vote. In the end, the rich and influential elite end up making the real decisions anyway.
